HELP! Need some advice on an Ebay deal (link added)
« on: February 06, 2011, 11:26:03 AM »
Does this look like a good deal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D40x-Kit-with-AF-S-DX-18-55mm-and-55-200mm-Len_W0QQitemZ230580291673QQcategoryZ31388QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6901401153397299353

will the  55-200mm lens be a good starter for outdoor use?

I've read alot of the other threads here, and feal the D40 would be all that I need for what I want in a camera.  I've also heard the discontinued D40x is a little better than the standard D40.

Thanks!

The biggest problem with the D40 is that you can only use lenses that have a built in focus motor.  You are stuck with buying the new lenses and that is a bummer sometimes.

Oh, good to know.  What level of Nikon do I need to get that would accept more universal lenses?

D70, D80, D90, D7000 would be your best bet for prosumer bodies.  D70 being oldest and D7000 being newest.  If I was in the market for a new body it would be the D7000.  Take it for what its worth cause its just my opinion.  If money were no option I'd go for the D3x but it round up near $5000 just for the body.  Hope this helps.
