.30-06, .308, .30/30

I guess that makes me old!

Love hunting the thick stuff with my grandfather's .30/30, killed more with the .30-06, now most likely to grab the .308
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

The new fad, 300 win mag
:yeah:

Great chambering(.300 Win). It’s only been around since 1963. New fad would be better suited for .300 WSM, .30 Nosler , .30-.378(Never been a fan of anything Weatherby), .308-Baer, .300 Ultra. Forgive me for shooting them all. Don’t forget the .308 Norma Mag (1960) there were plenty of converted surplus rifles chambered in the .308 NM.

It definitely has to be my Remington 700BDL in 30.06 that was given to me as a graduation gift from my parents in 1976. Best graduation gift ever.

It really depends on the hunt, not many 30's I haven't shot and they will all kill in the right situation, sometimes it's nice to pack an old school caliber but I really like high performance. I started out with a couple different 30/30's and some other calibers, then packed my dad's old model 70 300 win mag for quite a few years until my wife got me a 300 weatherby for xmas about 30 years ago. I've packed that 300 weatherby on many successful hunts, I also used it as a backup rifle for hunters who had poor shooting guns, we literally shot out the barrel on big game animals, not sure how many elk it has killed, somewhere in the triple digits, it has a special place in my heart, for now it's retired until I rebarrel it. I've mostly been packing a .257 wthby or a 300 ultramag the last few years which are both great shooting guns, so when I get around to rebarrelling the old 300 I might send it to the factory and have them use the action to make it a 6.5x300 accumark, last time I checked they will do that for around $1000 bucks.

I was poking some good natured fun at @Stein about it being faddish.  Yeah I have been around a couple old 308 Norma Mags that were some cool old workhorses

Mine is the 6.5 Creedmoor..  It's a 30 caliber after it hits the side of a deer. :chuckle:
