Simms question
« on: July 03, 2019, 05:22:37 AM »
I’m a buy once cry once type of guy. Now with that said I’d like to get a pair of the g3 or g4 waders. Yesterday I was at the sports store and ran across the free stones. How are the free stones? Are they something I’ll probably upgrade in a few years or are they gonna last me awhile? Anyone use these?

I personally do not....but my Teenage son that fishes more than he should has had a pair for 2 years with zero issues no leaks.  He is not exactly what I would call easy on equipment so I would say a normal person should be fine.  I know when he goes after steelhead in the winter he just double up on under layers.

I cant speak to the Freestones, but I can speak to the G4's. I have owned 2 pairs. The first pair was the first model of g4's that came out, and they lasted 5-6 years of guiding 125 days a year, an additional 50ish days solo fishing, and duck hunting. The next pair I've had since 2014, zero issues. I don't spend near the amount of time out that I used to, so I anticipate a few more good years out of them. Definitely some of the best waders available on the market.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

Loved my Simms but finally they went out last year, so I bought some Dryft waders, absolutely awesome and super durable.  I like them better than Simms and at way less than half the cost...

I think the freestone are an amazing deal. They survived 2 seasons of guiding and fishing in kodiak Ak for me. I would bushwack and not exactly treat them nicely. Got my first leak right at the end of a season, as I was entering an airplane and caught em on a sharp piece or metal.

I bought a pair of cheap 80 dollar or so waiding pants from reddington, and in the same conditions I destroyed them beyond the possibility of sealing them in a month! Well worth the money for the Simms.
