looking to buy a hunting bow. which shop?

Hey fellas,

I'm looking to buy a new hunting bow. I'm new to the archery scene and I want to go some place that's not going to be in a rush to get me out of the door. I am in Seattle area but willing to drive. What shop would you recommend?

Darin Sparks at Bob's Sporting Goods in Longview.  The guy can get you in the right bow for you, set it up for you, and get your arrows to drive nails.  Nice guy.

Alternatively, Wayne Endicott at the Bow Rack in Eugene, OR.

Another vote for Riverside Archery in Mt Vernon and Gary.  While you're up there go hit the walk thru course at Silver Arrow Bowmen.  It's a couple dollars and has about 40 targets at various ranges and angles.  You could spend hours in there and it will make you a better shooter for sure.

Another vote for Denton and Rock Creek Archery in Enumclaw. Who ever you buy from be sure your gear is set up before you leave the shop. Expect to pay more for that. Bow set ups are much more involved than a rifle and scope. If you don't know how you can't do it. Proper arrows, draw length and weight, arrow rest, arrow/ broadhead weights, sight set up, peep sight set up, and what ever I am forgeting is critical. You will be way more successful and happier if you pay the extra money up front to be properly set up. You have to find someone who really knows how to set up your system to maximize your success.

Several excellent options suggested   My  This is a very busy time of year for all shops. Be prepared to spend TIME probably even more than cash. Unless you can get an appointment, or already KNOW exactly what you want; be prepared to spend all day, and hope it is not a busy day at that. IME most shops are very good at customer service, but time management is the challenge.  Its a tight rope to walk as nearly every customer that walks thru the door needing service wants it done yesterday, and most shops cant just hire employees on a whim because they anticipate a 2 month flood of customers, and to be honest as archers we wouldn't want them to. My advice, make sure they take the time with you to be comfortable that your picking the bow you like. They let you shoot as many as you want, ask them to change weights, lengths etc if needed and get the right bow for you. Its a big investment for a Pro shop line bow typically, dont be rushed on this part. However, AFTER that let the shop take over. Don't rush them to get your stuff completed, be prepared for them to help other customers and if its real busy consider offering to come back and pick it up when its ready.  If you go into it with that mindset, and the shop does not meet those expectation, go somewhere else.

I also second the notion that you should be prepared to spend an hour or more at the shop before someone will even be able to talk to you.  Lots of shooters this time of year, both hunting and target guys are all in there needing stuff.
