Pe Ell South questions
«
on:

I spent last weekend scouting hard in the area and found some sign but not much. I'm new to this area and my wife is going to hunt with me for her first time.
i'm hoping someone can give me some advise on the area to increase her/my odds. mainly where do the elk hang out in here come september, up high? in the reprod? down in the riverbottoms? in the old growth? all of my previous elk hunting has been in the rain forrest on foot camping waaay off the road. so the ability to drive is new to me and I
was a bit overwhelmed when i was scouting. any info would be appreciated. on a side note I'm taking my 10yo son in there for his first deer hunt (modern) so tips on that would be great as well.

I had the permit several years ago and my daughter passed on 5 different bulls that had hoof rot so badly that they could barely walk and were so skinny that you could count every rib and see their hip bones. We were 68 yards away and they didn't give a crap that we were there. They were just trying to survive.

Good place...lots of 3 and 4 points. Get the drive on permit and then get as far in as u can then ride ur bike in as far as u can into the walk in only spot and u can then hunt the logging roads as not many people hunt that far back. Go to the spot where it butts up to fossel creek RTC. Find Johnson's creek and caben creek. Drop down in the nastiest drangages u can find and u will get into big ones. Small ones r right on the roads. (Archery and muzz idk about MF)

I’ve hunted near there but not in that area specifically. I find the elk have areas they like, particular stands or creeks or fields or peaks and move from spot to spot throughout the year. When they get pressure they like the thick small repels for cover. They also tend to like small creek bottoms and openings where feed is plentiful but cover remains high. You never know when they might be out in an open field or clear cut but they tend to find clear cuts where they can feed in spots that are not visible from the road, sometimes walking through cuts to find tracks is helpful.
