GMU 249 archery elk hunt.
« on: August 14, 2019, 06:48:42 PM »
Alright, so it's not that I'm thinking about doing it. I'm just gonna do it. .... I'm going to hunt the 249 for archery elk. I've been researching this unit for a few weeks. Making phone calls and trying to get my ducks in a row. I know it's tough and thick and steep. I'm willing and able, not scared of a big pack and miles on my boots. Honestly I'm just looking for any information someone's willing to give me. Like I said I know people are gonna say it's thick and steep but I'm looking for more of directional/geographical information. I appreciate any help someone can give me. I'll be contacting the wildlife biologist in the next few days to get info from her also. Thanks guys! Happy hunting.

Small pockets of elk ....very tough for one guy to get a elk outta there without meat loss . 5 miles into that country with three to four loafs of meat in a time frame as to not waste meat is tough......its tough with two able guys.   But I will be hunting it with another fool . how bad do you wanna hunt bulls right.

Bad! I've done some tough ridiculous packs out. I know that I'll have my work cut out for me but the challenge would be so rewarding. Statistics show a  15% chance of getting a bull but those 15% feel satisfaction like nobody's business! Appreciate it.

Good luck. You can spend a lot of time in there and find nothing and if people know where elk are in there they are tight lipped.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

I’ve been thinking about this one also. Does border certain areas that contains good numbers of elk.
