GPS charts/mapping software.
« on: December 30, 2015, 06:00:24 PM »
Looking at getting either Navonics or Insight lakes for my Lowrance chart plotter.

Anyone have experience using either brand?

Which is better or are they both about the same?

Where do you plan on using it. Insight is good if your looking at lakes only. Nautic insight is good for lakes and the sound/ocean. Navionics is good and has different options(Gold/Platinum etc)..Also check out Navionics app. I have it downloaded to my cell phone as a back up navigation option.

Which Lowrance do you have. That will make a difference with what chart options you can use and the definition of those charts.

I have the HDS5. Got the marine alllready on it.
Want something with lakes info for exploring new lakes and rivers (Columbia )

Navonics is on sale at BPS. The premium edition I believe.

The Navionics will work just fine for your needs. Its probably the premium  Hot Maps version. Just make sure its Western States.

Wanted to resurrect this old post because things have changed a bunch and I still get questions about Gold/Platinum/Premium cards.

The Navionics+ Regions West is a good choice for us here in Washington. It is the cheapest priced and has the best level of detail you can get from Navionics.

But, the Platinum card also allows you to do the SonarChart shading like you see below.
