First Idaho Backcountry Trip
« on: August 26, 2019, 12:41:54 PM »
Me and a friend coughed up a few $$$ for our first big game guided trip opting for horses and the Sawtooth Wilderness as the backdrop for the archery opener. We're chasing elk but have tags for bear, wolf, deer too. I sure do wish I had another month to get ready but at the same time, can't wait for it to get here.

We drive out Wednesday, arrive Thursday ready for the opener. Any tips for an inbound newb to 33 & 34? I know, shoot straight.  :IBCOOL:

Embrace the suck and take a fishing rod.

It's down, but I'd tell you to take a fishing rod even if it was up. It's really ruff country and if you don't pace yourself it's really easy to be spent after 2-3 days. Taking advantage of some great high mountain trout fishing during the middle of the day is a great way to keep the batteries from getting completely drained. Embrace the suck, just means embrace the fact that the country and elevation is going to grind you down. When you accept the pain, fatigue, headaches, and little sleep are supposed to happen, you'll find the trip more enjoyable.

I had a fishing rod on my earlier list but let it drop off. Good call!

Typical spoons for trout or fish food?
