Youth 215 and 204 Antlerless
« on: August 27, 2019, 11:25:49 PM »
I have a kid that is in head deep in his athletics. 20 hours a week almost year round.  He hasn't hunted a couple years with his dad because he has competition season in the fall.  This has been awful, but will continue for a while.

I discovered that he has a little room in the pattern for the early Oct weekend of Modern season and so I put him in for the youth 204.  He just so happened to draw it, AND the 215 antlerless second.  2 tags. But something like a long weekend to work on it.

I'm no newby here and I've offered help where I can.  I have hunted the 215 a lot as a Kid, for mule deer bucks.  I know where the whitetails can be found in the wildlife area and on the pockets of state on the North Pine creek side.  I also know what a ZOO this area is on the opener.  Because the 215 is a whitetail tag, it's a little tougher to figure and there'll be serious hunter numbers.

In the 204, that's been an area I drive through.  Been to Bonaparte, been to Curlew area. (if it's not int he Sherman?).  Anyhow, that's not an area I have traveled much and hunted little.

If someone has a good idea on either unit for a doe (204 either species, 215 Whitetail only), I'm ALL ears and beyond appreciative.  Does are typically not something a person has to give up the steep/deep corner they occupy.  Private/public... don't care, just a chance for him to get out there, camp  a whole 3 days with his dad and maybe convert on one of these tags.  I suspect the 204 is the easier hunt because of both species but I always keep my mind open that we could be efficient and do a double header.  I have regular buck tags but I don't intend to hunt.

Any help is appreciated!

I’m in the same boat you’re in, just not in the same area. I think my son and I will both be skipping school from time to time lol!

I'm about to say to heck with all, and go raise pigs, mules, and tobacco.
