Kettle Falls Crawdad
« on: September 05, 2019, 11:01:05 AM »
I'm going to be in the Kettle Falls/Marcus area hunting and was hoping to drop a crawdad trap for a few nights and get a boil set for the end of the hunt. Anyone willing to drop me a PM and provide a few tips for a crawdad greenhorn I would be appreciative.

dropping from shore or boat?   Marcus campground should have them, they're in the Roosevelt.

Pretty much all the lakes have them and they can also be found in the colville river.

Dropping from shore. I'm seeing the Pingston Creek runs into Roosevelt south of Marcus. I was planning to drop in that area so we could check the pot on our way to and from hunting.

Thanks for the tip @KFhunter. If I have some luck I'm more than happy to share.

look for a shallow flat with big rocks on shore, the crawdads get hit pretty hard by smallies and need shelter.   If there's a bench where the water isn't too deep and there's (big) rock on shore you can toss the trap out a ways so its where the rocks meet the mud flat.

I like to use green paracord, its strong and hard to see.  Your traps will get stolen!   I've lost two so far when I was using floats, don't use floats anymore.

I know for a fact that west of Kettle is Lake ellen.
Crawdads are thick and easy road access.

Also a pretty good bear and Deer area.
