gunsmith and barrel advice
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:19:37 PM »
Well I bought a shilen 25-06 featherweight barrel for that 1909 Argentine mauser that I'm reworking.  Put on a winchester swing style safety the other night.  Any gunsmiths on here?  I need to get a new bolt handle welded on.  or any recomendations.  or anyone done it before?  I have a small wire feed welder but I don't know if I want to attempt it.  Anyone have any experience with these light barrels? I would imagine that they will get hot fairly fast and start losing accuracy.  This is going to be my main deer hunting rifle so I'm really only worried about how it shoots the first couple of shots.  Hoping that I can get it down to around 8 pounds w/scope.

Well, if your not sure about doing it yourself than don't.  I see ur in Port angeles and thats a little distance from where I live up here in stanwood but here is a couple places to contact.  First on is Greene's Gun shop in Oak harbor 360-675-3421. I'm not sure what they do there but it's a shot.  And another guy that does gunsmithing is Larry Conley 360-668-9409.  He might be a little busy but that would be ur best bet probably out of the 2.  Gunsmiths are hard to find around here.  Like Larry said to me...there either retired or dead!!!  Personnally, I send all my stuff out of state to a guy named James at Willis Arms out of Louisiana.  Hope this helps
