Fourth year first bird...welcome to washington hunting :bash:. To still be hunting says a lot about the boy and his mentors  :). Great picture. Congratulations to all and a special thanks to the Dad and the buddy for the hook up. Way to go.

The past 3 youth seasons have been full of activity and were just missing the finale to make them complete.  The first year we had a bird within 35 yards in the first 5 minutes.  That turned into one of the coolest displays I've ever seen in the woods when that bird led us back around the hillside and smack into the middle of the biggest bachelor group of toms and jakes I've ever seen.  We spent 2 hours listening to and watching close to 30 gobblers in full display on a sunny hillside.  At one point I had every bird gobbling and running up the hill toward us only to have them hang up and stay in the open... I think that first 2 hours of his turkey hunting career hooked him for life!
hey, where's Professor Chaos? Anyone seen him?

alecvg congrats..how big?  Why did you miss?  How old are ya?  Good job.

I don't know why I missed, it was freakin hilarious though, I was walking up the road I shot my first one the morning before on (I could have shot both opening morning within 10 seconds of each other, but I had only bought one tag), and spotted a hen in the woods about 100 yds away, so in my jeans and shoes, I walked through the knee deep snow drift and got behind a tree, i moved from tree to tree when ever it looked away or moved, I was in an area of recently logged timber, so there were logs everywhere!  Anyway, I moved up, and the hen got spooked and started going faster, when suddenly I saw the whole flock... running, so I took off sprinting after them as fast as I could, and they are fast sons of ******! I cought up to them and they circled back to the main road, and the big tom strutted and flew down the road, so I sprinted after it, and it landed in some thick trees, so after 5 min. I had spotted it, and took the shot at 30 yds. which wasnt an easy one, and missed, and it flew away. :bash:  Oh well, I got my first turkey and am happy!  And had a great hunt!  Hopefully I can fill two more tags over here on the west side, if I can figure out where the darn turkeys are!  I am 15 by the way.

Remember when you were young and would try stuff like that?  ...and sometimes it actually worked :IBCOOL:

Nice job alecvg :)
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Alecvg...congrats..I want to see the beard man...got any pics?  While you are young try and learn how to expand your hunting tactics...running after birds isn't the most effective or the safest especially with a loaded weapon.  I would also like to remind you I believe you can only fill one tag on he westside.  I assume you were hunting private land with the fenced tree in the background...what county? Stevens?  Good job..

I like your pic got any more?

Alecvg....congratulaltions on your turkey.  Pathfinder said....

"Remember when you were young and would try stuff like that?  ...and sometimes it actually worked "

A lot of us probably have all been there when we were young, but in all  honesty, turking hunting is not stalking or chasing turkeys and taking random shots.  It's all about learning about the birds and the right way to hunt....calling them in, or even patterning them so you have a good clean shot and even cleaner kill.
Turkeys are big birds and can take some damage....particulaly to the body.  Many have shot and missed birds without realizing that they actually wounded birds.
Anyway not trying to lecture or diminish you turkey hunting experience, just suggesting that now that you have that first one under your belt, try doing it the right way.....you'll like it.
And again...............congratulations! ;)

Centurion,
I think he may have killed his first one that morning with "conventional" tactics.  Second bird seemed to be a target of opportunity...
Still, good advice.  I think if most of us could have benfitted from some good mentoring when we were that age.  I know I spent a lot of my youth chasing around targets of opportunity, when I should have been perfecting my skills.  I think there is a life lesson there, but not sure... :chuckle:

Took my Nephew out on Sat....  Called two jakes into range gobbling the hole way..  It was exciting.  Zach was shaking like it was a 900lb trophy bull...... Sure brings me back to my early years.
