You’re probably not going to get many polite responses to this type of question. IMO you’ll be better off asking for opinions on specific units once you have it narrowed down a little bit. Not many guys willing to throw their favorite units out there for everybody to read.

A quick look at harvest stats will tell you immediately which units ha e the highest success rates. From there, narrow down the area to hunt by topography of your liking and amount of access (roads) you want, and send it. You'll be happy in most places over there.

Idaho...Unit 11, Unit 45...there, I said it...everybody is gonna hate me...then again the actual percentage of drawing in those units as a non-resident is as about as good as drawing an Entiat deer tag in Washington...crap, I gave up another "hidden gem"...

PS. IDFG has a damn good hunt planner tool on their website that also give the true draw odds.

I doubt your going to fill your bull tag in Entiat, draw odds for elk in 45 are not that bad, don’t know about 11.

I joined a couple of Facebook Groups concerning Montana hunting and I gather a great season on mature bucks happened around the Missouri Breaks and eastern Montana in general.  All that BLM land was good I would guess.

Most the elk migrated to Wyoming to get away from out of state hunters. :chuckle:

MT special draw for premium units will leave you with lottery type odds.  It's managed for opportunity so there are surprisingly few really good draw tags compared to other states and the odds reflect it.
