Hunted CO in 1999 and it was awesome - lots of animals and action - not sure why we never went back

just remember that over the counter tags are for rifle season only.

For muzzleloader season, expect a 3 year wait or longer to get enough pref points to draw a lesser quality game unit and 16 years for a trophy unit.

not entirely true. There are also archery otc tags and literally dozens of units you can draw for muzzleloader with 0-1pts.

Im after mule deer. Just trying to decide whether I should go for a 3rd season rifle hunt ir hunt one if the muzzy seasons. I definitely prefer to hunt around fewer people and wanted to see what peoples thoughts were.

Not sure yet..,just starting my planning...i just want to hunt an area with minimal people and a chance to shoot a decent 4x4. Not picky about shooting a monster.

mulling over a similar scenario with a buddy, were at 3pts each, want to draw this year just not sure where to apply them.  Got our options narrowed down a bit but its hard to decide where to put our apps as far 2nd or 3rd season goes!

Thing to remember about CO low point units is you will not escape the hunting pressure. Most units will have a general elk season and with it brings 50 states worth of wide eyed dreamers. Think LT Murray general rifle season but more animals  :chuckle:

0-1 pref point? Good luck in those units. Theres a reason why you can get them easy  Hunted for elk last year on the plains which was easy to get... Talked to  the locals while out there and they lived there their whole lives and never once saw an elk for which i had a tag  :chuckle:

Best thing you can do is figure out what game unit you'd like the chance to draw for and go from there. Have a GPS with the map software? If not, plan on buying that as well.

I only hunt 0 point units 😂  plenty of game to be had. No way I'm sitting out a year of CO hunting in my lifetime if I can help it.

Colorado is really overrated when it comes to hunting.  Washington is way better.   Save your gas money and buy a box of ribeye.
