Got my first Beaver
« on: December 06, 2019, 04:07:22 PM »
I took the trapping class that was put on at Cabela's Nov 23th. Bought one of Bruce's traps, joined WSTA, and got my trapping lic. Talked to a neighbor just down the street from me that I could see from the rd was having trees killed by beavers.  I was shocked how happy they where to let me trap on his land. I think "god bless you, we are at our whits end and don't know what to do" was the exact reply, to my asking if I could trap beaver on there land (followed by giving me a tour of damage and thanking me, and wishing me good luck).  It took me a couple of weeks but I got one of those flat tailed rats :).  Wow Bruce makes fleshing them look easy... lol I didn't find it anywhere near easy.... I have a lot to learn.

Awesome!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Nice work! Hope you pull a few more from there. I’m a second year trapper. Get a necker 600 if you don’t have one already. I bought cheap knives to start and had a horrible time fleshing. Still not as fast as these 10 min guys, but getting better. Good luck. It’s fun

Cool. Thanks guys. So after like 2 weeks of nothing... beaver and then bam today I got a otter. I am excited. This is fun, there's no telling what will show up. I am shocked... this "creek" is only like 2" deep and 2' wide and has produced a 40lb beaver and a 3' long otter. To me that's nuts. I ordered the fleshing knife that was recommended and skinned, froze the otter while I wait for the fleshing knife to get hear.  It's addicting...
