"Davis views the wildlife department as having been “captured” by ranching and hunting interests. The agency counts on revenue from hunting and fishing license fees, which depend significantly on continued access to private ranch land, she noted."

My god, these people are out of touch.

If hunting them in Idaho you might want to add a cow bell to your calling sounds

Jan Wright has patrolled on horseback in areas near Diamond M‘s federal grazing allotments, safeguarding cattle belonging to five other ranches. Her territory has included parts of the Colville forest, where about 10,000 cattle grazed last summer from 34 livestock producers including Diamond M.
Contracted by the wildlife agency, Wright works to deter wolves by hanging up cloth strips and carrying a gun that shoots whistle flares. She removes dead and injured cattle that might attract carnivores. And she outfits cattle with cowbells.
“When they wear bell collars, it sounds like the cavalry are coming,” Wright said. “The ranches that I’ve been riding for in the last few years have not had wolf kills.”

This summer I saw several Diamond M cattle sporting bells around their necks. She must have snuck them on them. But I have yet to see a single person who I would consider a range rider. Even the evidence they are in the area. Parked truck with a horse trailer nada. If they are riding maybe they are coming out of Colville?  :dunno:

Wonder how long it will take for predators to hear this as a "dinner bell" :chuckle:

The LA Times needs to publish articles on topics that they actually have experience in, like homelessness and secure drug injection sites. Stay out of our business.

These people are so far out there it's gone beyond out of touch. Though the root of all these "efforts" is making big wads of cash for your conservation homeboys.

"Environmentalists say that restoring the apex predators at the top of the food chain helps revive ecosystems, bringing back songbirds and salmon. They say wolves cull unnaturally large herds of hoofed animals, known as ungulates, allowing vegetation to return, and boosting bird and fish habitat.

“Wolves are what make the wild wild,” said Amaroq Weiss, the Center for Biological Diversity’s senior West Coast wolf advocate, who sees them as crucial to the evolutionary process in which the fittest survive. “If you love ungulates, and how athletic and fast and muscular they are, you have wolves to thank for that,” she said."

Remember to thank a wolf for your fast and muscular ungulates. Ignore all the dead ones.

They rebut anything the McIrvins say and nothing that the"conservationists" say. Yeah, conservationists, that's it. Right. This should be in the Fake News thread.

Well the whole bell thing is total BS and a lie.  That Gugliemino ranch off flat creek rd has been running bells for years, and it wasn't for wolves

they have range up close to diamond M ranch, the two meet there about crown creek on the flat

It's just easier to keep tabs on their whereabouts when you can hear em jingle jangling out the brush

so full of bs

How disgusting..........nothing more than a recruitment plea for more misinformed screwballs to come to the defense of the wolves and rally against cattle ranches and grazing allotments.

In Idaho we talked to a rancher who had his lead cow with a bell as they were headed off National Forest.  He said the bell also draws in the cows as they are moving down.
