300wm barrel advice request

I've got a savage action sitting here I've been wanting to build for about 18 months now, finally decided I'm gonna start ordering parts.

Going through northland shooters supply for a pre fit barrel. Most likely going with criterion. 26" NSS varmint contour, threaded, and possibly fluted.

I can also go with a shilen, but they don't have the contour I want, and it seems between the 2 it's a toss up on quality and accuracy.

Both barrels are available in a 1:8 or a 1:10 twist, no 1:9.

Plan for the rifle is for long range plinking 1st, but I will also want to use it for hunting big game. Deer, bear, antelope and elk. This wont be my only hunting rifle, I have a 243, 30-06, 6.5 creed, 45-70 and a 7mm-08 is on the way too.
I would like to shoot 215 Berger's and 212 elder x bullets from the 300, hoping to push them to 2900 or so.

So, what twist do I go with? I was thinking 1:8 is probably to fast for any lighter bullets, and I read both good and bad using this twist on the 200-215 grain stuff.
Would the 1:10 be a better choice? I dont plan on shooting sub 200g bullets, if I needed to go lower I would use a different caliber.

How much weight will typical fluting pull from a 26" barrel? I was originally hoping to build a 10# gun, but I'm quickly realizing that a heavier gun is probably better, and with the other components I'm using will be much cheaper. I'm second guessing my idea of having it fluted. Aesthetically I do like fluted barrels though.

Gonna stick the barrled action in a oryx chassis, using a sav-1 trigger, upgraded recoil lug and nut. Top it with a undecided 20moa rail, and probably a athlon midas 4.5-27, or another viper pst.

For the WM stay with a 10 twist. It will stabilize 215 bergers just fine. My guess is you’ll be close to 11.5 pounds fully rigged. About what a real rifle is supposed to weigh.

10 twist will do it, i have owned one and tried it.  I know there are quite a few companies that offer pre-fits.  Proof has some nice steel barrels and does Savage prefits.

Barrel will wear a brake/suppressor mount 90% of its use. Not sure of any pros or cons to either crown method.

I prefer a recessed crown but with a break attached it won’t really matter.

1:10 will do fine unless you plan to shoot any high bc mono’s or plan to shoot past transonic then go 1:8
The criterion barrel I have shoots great! I like the target crown my self.

When using a brake or other suppressor mount, I prefer the 11° target crown simply because a recessed crown tends to build up more crud over time.

With a bare muzzle it doesn't really matter which type of crown you choose, as long as it's cut clean and square.

I'll be the odd man out and say go with a 9" twist. 8" twists can be more trouble than they're worth and not necessary for a 300 Win Mag with 215gr bullets. The extra stability you get by going to a 9" twist instead of a 10" can make a difference in bullet performance on game.

10# should be plenty.   Stick to swarovski or leupold scope to keep weight down.   Stock in the mid to upper 20 oz range.   1:10.

Ended up finding the oryx chassis 100$ off, and x caliber barrels are 30% off right now, considering ordering a prefit x-caliber with a 1-9 5r finished off at 26", heavy varmint contour of some sort.

Still gotta research how well Xcaliber barrels run on savages. Seems I've seen some hit and miss reviews so far.

My Xcaliber barrel is shooting great. I took the time to break it in properly for the first 20 shots, I have no complaints. I would also stick with the 1-9 twist.

I think you made a good choice. That should be a deadly and accurate rifle for those heavy for caliber, high BC factory or hand loads. Good luck this year!
