New APA Gen 3 Muzzle Brake Review
« on: December 26, 2019, 05:28:21 PM »
Tried out the new self-timing APA Lil Bastar* muzzle brake with 8 pluggable top ports today on a 378-338 with 300 gr SMK loads.

Was having big muzzle jump issues with this 338-378 due to the drop comb stock - i.e. barrel centerline so far above recoil pad.

This brake reduced recoil over stock weatherby brake and eliminated muzzle rise.  I opened 5 ports up top.  Still need to test what happens with another two open.  Highly recommend for weatherby and drop comb stocks.  Groups tightened but still refining loads to new brake.  Its workmanship is excellent  though that hex nut is rather fugly in design.

Oh yea - recoil reduction = noise.    The recoil reduction is similar to MBM 5 port Beast brake I have which is nice.   If you have a need to shoot 300 grainers at 2850 you better wear hearing protection.

The good thing about these big brakes is they don’t spook game.  All the noise is behind you or to the side.    Very little down range noise.

2850 is what you're getting?
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Got myself a gen 2 micro *censored* sitting here.  But the gun its for...  ordered 2 weeks ago, still "processing" and ive emailed and left a voicemail and gotten no response.  My ffl has not yet been contacted.  My card, of course, has been charged though.

Exactly ,the reason I don't use muzzle brakes anymore.
But it does look like a good one.

Seems to be the sweet spot for 26” barrel both via shooting and Quickload fwiw.  Also matches my Lapua’s node so son and I can share ballistic hold overs on game.

Could push 338-378 a bit more,  Lapua maxed out.  RL33.
