Prepping for a week on Long Island?

I'm going to take my boat to Long Island for a week this comping September. What will you guys recommend for gear? I've got 9 months to prepare.

Better rain gear than you can imagine. Strong tarping systems for rain and wind at camp.

Seriously though, with the lack of rain this year and the high chance of fire closures next September (on private timber company lands) there are going to be a lot of people looking to get on state lands where they don't close for fire danger. In 2017 when early archery was closed until the 18th on timber co lands there wasn't a spot to park at the boat launch. Camp sites book out well in advance (no spike camping allowed) and plenty of people day hunt the island. Not trying to burst your bubble, but other then some cool old trees and thick brush I wouldn't consider this a backcountry hunt at all.

I have hunted it (long time ago) archery elk, and I have spent a far amount of time there, have family in the area.
Sundance is right, have a back up plan....
as far as gear... be ready for anything, don't skimp on the waterproof gear.

No, not a backcountry hunt per se, but there was not other good forum for this topic. Just looking for a gear list, thats all.

Well if you have any tips, PM me. I plan on using a jet sled at high tide and tying off onto shore. I want to keep this thread on the topic of gear however.

There are a lot of swamps, marshes and sloughs on the island, this can really limit your movements on foot depending on how wet you want to get. At the minimum a good pair or boots, however a pair of hip waders or chest waders will come in handy. Plan on having your boat go high and dry unless you are anchoring in a channel and using a tender to get to shore. Some of the camp sites are in low points and flood in severe rain, taking a scouting trip down there this winter/spring will give you a better idea of which camp sites are the better ones to reserve.

To the OP’s question:  Bring a tent, a tarp, 2 or 3 days of food. You are only 10 minutes from the mainland dock, not far from civilization. Don’t overthink it.
