"bang for buck" dial moa scope recomendations

I was wanting to try something that I could dial out to 400 + yards and increase my confidence at that range and further (for fun).
I really think I don't need "alpha glass" for a scope, but I do want it solid and always able to accurately go back to zero.

I also want to keep it simple (no custom turrets) and I will keep a 200 yard zero .

I heard a while ago that  "SS" scopes were made very well and under value, but wanted some other opinions.  thank you.

I put a Leupold VX freedom 3x9 with a CDS on my Kimber 270 WSM , I really like it.
zero at 200, figure out your ammo the gun likes , send info to Leupold and they send you a dial.

No budget in mind, but like I said I do not need "alpha glass",just want a reliable scope that will always track and zero ( more bang for buck than budget).

Just looking for tried and true recommendation's that I can look into.

Could be just me but if your getting a dial a distance scope the least they could do is add a parallax adjustment on it. If I'm shooting 300-400 yds plus I want to be able to focus what I'm looking at.

For the op have you considered a BDC style reticle. Hold over without the worry of dialing in your distance.

Buy the best you can afford. The maven scope ive heard is good in the $1000 range. Lots to consider but the options mentioned are good.

The VX6 HD 4-24 is a very nice scope on sale now at $1549 which is $450 off street price but thinking you want to start lower?

I bought one on black Friday. They had a huge sale. I haven't mounted it yet. But it looks solid and the glass looks good. I got the 3-15x42.

No but I've shot with one before. Not bad for the price. I can't speak of durability and longevity since I don't own one. Glass was fine, adjustments where true..just remember you pay 300 for a scope your getting a 300 dollar scope. ..I know they claim military grade construction because of the companies history with military contracts. But side by side with my nightforce there's no comparison.

SWFA has seen its share of bad reviews lately........at least thats what Ive heard through the grapevine of testers........

Also, believe it or not, you get what you pay for no matter whos name is on stuff.......if it sounds too good to be true, it generally is.....

I have 3 swfa ss scopes, two 3-15x and one 12x fixed.  I love them.  Great glass for the money, very durable, easy to turn turrets and the best of all, very repeatable.  The last time I went out and shot 600 yards at the 8" gong, my 30-06 with the 3-15x was dead on every time if I did my part.

Nightforce SHV is the best priced scope (bang for your buck) in my opinion.  You will never regret that purchase and you not spending more than 1500 dollars.  The one in the classifieds is a good deal.

If your scopes are over 2 years old you probably dont own any of the ones (swfa) where the negatives surfaced as they have all been more recent production.

And yes I have shot a few of them, not for me, different strokes......

I'm not a real big Vortex fan, but for what they cost, the Vortex HS-T is a pretty decent scope for the money.  I have one that's been swapped around on a few different rifles and currently sits on my new 6mm Creedmoor.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a NF NXS and you can usually pick good clean used NF NXS scopes up for a good discount in price over brand new, but for the yardage the OP is shooting, I'm not sure you need to spend that much.

Tracking,  any inherent error in manufacturing (nothing is perfect) shows small in most cases at moderate ranges, but the father you go, the more it becomes an issue.  If using a scope to hunt to 600 yards a guy is pretty safe but at longer ranges error=miss.

I've used the fixed power SS scopes and they've been very reliable and affordable. The glass is good enough and the tracking was always spot on. I haven't used their variable scopes much but I think they'd be pretty good in their price points.

I like the Sightron S III line of scopes for a good mid-priced scope. I've never been happy with the low to mid-priced Vortex scopes up to the PST line, the glass has always been poor and they have a cheap feel.

I wouldn't spend any money on a new Nightforce SHV or NXS line of scopes. They're good scopes but WAY over priced for the quality of the glass. I still have one NXS that only gets mounted as a last resort. Heck, I like the Mk 4 more than the NXS!

I haven't used the newer VX 5hd scopes but I'll probably try one for the next hunting rifle I need to scope. I've seen them used for under $700.
