Hello guy's ! I don't fish ,but i do freediving ( no scuba ) ,and spearfishing .Always want to nail pike .Anybody know were i can hunt for them ?

I'm not aware of any lakes with Pike, but there are many lakes with Tiger Musky. They are a hybrid between Musky and Pike. Very cool looking fish.

North Idaho has a couple lakes...Hayden, etc that has them. Not sure of any in washington.

Almost in Washington....the South end of Lake Coeurd'Alene has a ton of Pike, early spring is when they're up in the shallow bays. I've heard there are a few NE Washington lakes that also have a few but I don't have 1st hand proof.

It is not legal to shoot tigers, and this year they changed the regulations, it has to be over 50 inches to keep it, if it is under that you are not allowed to hold them in the boat for any tournament or any other reason..

I see that you are from Renton. Lake Tapps is full of Tiger Muskies. I have multiple friends who have gotten them out of there.

May I ask why you would want to kill a pike anyhow, they are terrible to eat, have you gone for ling cod, they are much better to eat ?? Pike are really only good for catch and release and photos, oh and if you have a pond you want all the trout eaten out of it !!!

You're crazy... what do you think they fish for in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and half of Canada... Pike and Walleye...

Pike take a knowledge of how to properly fillet them, you need to get those little tiny Y bones out or they're a pain in the ass to eat. I'm sure there are "How to's" all over the internet on how to fillet them, if not just ask me when you get one and I can help you out.

As for not good eating, throw it on the grill wrapped in tin foil with some lemon juice or fry it with drake's and you're SET.

I grew up in Wisconsin catching hundreds of them and never eating any of them, Except once !! We were on a boundary waters canoe trip in northern Minnesota and our food pack was stolen from us by a couple hungry bears during the 5Th night of a 7 night trip. In the other food pack we had dried sausage gravy mix and dried scalloped potatoes so for the next 2 days and nights we had pike and small mouth bass covered with sausage gravy and really thick potato chips !!!

I am sure there are those that will eat them but I would never go out of my way again to catch one to eat, they are extremely boney and excessively slimy and taste nasty !!!

Don't get me wrong, they are a really fun fish to catch and hold up for photos but then they go right back in the lake !!!

it is plenty of fish in Puget sound ,and i like saltwater fish better any way

i know carp taste nasty ,i shoot few in moses lake ,but couldn't eat it ,don't like a taste

Well there are Bluegill, Crappie, Perch, Large mouth bass, Small mouth bass, Walleye as you mentioned, catfish, etc... that are a million times better eating then a pike any day, or musky for that matter, they suck to eat too but are really fun to catch !!!

it is not legal to spearfish most freshwater fish

only couple species ,like carp ,and pike,and i think catfish ..thats it

i like catfish ,but i don't think we have it in WA

Long Lake does have pike in it, the Pondoreille River is getting a pretty good population of pike as well.

We use to spear fish lingcod in Hood Canal when I was young. Then we found out that the ones sitting still (that everyone was spearing) were females laying on their nests. Today there are almost no lingcod in Hood canal anymore.

When i spearfish ,i freedive ,no scuba ,trust me it is not easy go 30 - 40 feet down ,using only your lungs . When lingcod season open for spearfishing in may ,it is not when they sit on egg's .And lingcod is not easy to find fish .I have around 40 seconds to find a fish ,and shoot it .Trust me so far i killed only one ling ,and few cabezon's ,over last 4 years .You probably use scuba ,when you spearfish ,so it is different game then.

I did not mean that to sound condescending if it did. We use to snorkel for the lings. they were common in less the 15 ft of water, back then. It was not uncommon to see up to twenty fish a day. After making the mistake of shooting a 25+ pounder and loosing my gear, we only shot at the moderate sized fish, lol.

To each his own I suppose, just depends on how you prepare it I suppose. I like Pike, and nobody had ever left our table saying they disliked it when I was growing up as a boy.

If you snorkel ,then you know what i am talking about

Too bad is not like this anymore ,i think then been hit hard by commercial fishing

I would dispute that, although high on the list I think it's hard to beat the tiny fillets you get off a Blue Gill. They are a pain in the but to fillet enough for a good meal but well worth the effort.

As far as the Northerns, I don't think they're too bad.

Man, it is amazing the difference in tastes of people. I have to disagree with some here. I too grew up in Wisconsin catching and eating hundreds of Northerns (pike in WI speak) and muskies. My grandad taught me how to fillet them, completely boneless. Excellent battered, IMO. Can't beat them pickled either. Way better than herring. Crappie are OK if caught in the spring when the water is still cold. Nasty and mushy when caught in the summer. Of course, NO freshwater fish beats perch or walleye for me. And I will catch hell for this, I won't even touch a catfish or bullhead. YUK

Pike fishing on the PO isn't worth it. The few fish up there are small and fight like dishrags, Newport and Ione are no fun, the weather always sucks, there are definately no turkeys or bears up in that country, the deer population got hit hard this winter and the wolves have moved in. I would stay away. Don't waste your time.

I also heard this evening from a buddy up there turkey hunting (why he's there I don't know, no birds) and apparently one of the guys in the next camp got his leg bitten off below the knee by a tick-a-saurous. They have really taken over the woods up there. Stay away, far far away.
