Turkeys in Clark county?
« on: April 12, 2020, 10:41:41 PM »
Just curious if anyone has ever seen wild Turkeys in Clark county?  I live outside of Washougal and was hearing turkey gobbles Saturday evening coming from an area nearby.  Never heard them before and did not hear them today.  Could be someone had a more domestic one escape and he was out looking for company?  Could have been a wild one looking for hens.
Figured I would throw it out there and see if anyone has ever seen them this far west.  Heck, I did not think Elk had made it as far west as they have, until I saw that herd of 40+ sitting in some guys field just west of Cape horn last fall.

I have heard of a few hit and miss encounters over the years. Nothing to really rely on.
The only thing I can say for certain is when I was in high school in LaCenter about 15 years ago. My first period class looked over a large grassy area that then went to fields and such beyond it, then up across the road was a large draw with a creek and woods. I was looking out the window one morning and saw 12-15 turkeys walking up through the grass towards the road and woods. 1 was a tom that strutted out a bit on his way up. Was crazy to see. Other than that I have never seen any other sign or anything in the area at all.

My daughter lives in Skamania county very near Clark county line. They heard a gobbler a couple weeks ago. Also two years ago had 3 or 4 hens around their place for a few months.

Thanks for the response, sounds like it could be possible then.  Next time I hear gobbles will call the neighbor and ask if he minds me poking around his property.  Would be fun to see some near the house but don't want neighbors thinking they have a prowler  :chuckle:
