West Side Quality Elk and General Archery Overlap
« on: April 22, 2020, 12:22:32 AM »
Was excited to look ant the regs and immediately went to quality elk tags to check the days. Seemed odd that this year many of the west side quality elk tags for modern rifle (sept 21-25) will be hunting during the general archery season (sept 12-24). Doesn’t seem like as quality of an opportunity as years past with only 1 day of your season hunting without archery hunters. I am sure the archery guys won’t like the idea of some people coming in with rifles as well on their last few days to hunt. I know this hasn’t been the case the last few years. Does this happen every few years because of dates on calendar? Just seems like it isn’t a win for the archery hunters, the safety of archery hunters or the experience of those who finally drew a quality tag.

How about Toutle archery guys getting invaded by a couple rifle tags on the best days of the season.  Both groups will have used their quality points.  Smh

Yeah it is going to be frustrating. I see there are some units that are sept 26-30 for quality rifle and am surprised that the dates for other units aren’t the same with those units like they were in past years. Hopefully someone on here can help with a little more info on why that would be...

The influx of the couple extra tags won't hurt anything for the archery guys. Rifle guys have a rifle at peak dates. The general season dates are the best I have ever seen for archery. It's a win.

I drew arguably the best Westside quality archery tag and hunted alongside rifle permit holders the entire permit season. It had some impact, but was still a good hunt. However my season ended on the 15th. I would have gladly traded those 9 days for a few extra rifle permits in the unit!

Exactly my thoughts. It’s not like hunting earlier makes it a better hunt.

The positive is that they won’t see anything either way in Toutle. 😂 Kidding, not kidding.

I am waiting for them to give us blacktail archery rags in peak rut in return.  Oh wait...
