Bluegill spawning?
« on: May 19, 2020, 11:03:49 PM »
Hey guys, when do the bluegills spawn in this state? Also, any lakes within 45 minutes of Olympia I can go after them? I need some flyrod practice.

This month is the time. Most of my experience is from eastside lakes though. I have caught bluegills in Sammamish along with crappie and perch. The pic is from the wdfw site. There is a list of statewide lakes for bluegills.

Fish hard, hunt harder!

Thanks! I really need to spend more time on the wdfw website. There's more information on there than I expected.

Just about all the lakes in Thurston County that I can think of have them other than Capitol and maybe Offut and Summit.  Macintosh, Hicks, Pattison, Munn, Chambers,    Black  should all have them plus some crappie in a few of those lakes too.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

And spawning is probably a couple weeks to a month away.  Bass will finish first then the gills and bullheads give it a go.  Bass are  60's to mid 70's.  Gills will want that Mid 70 and up I believe.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

I have fished Franklin Roosevelt Lake in Stevens County for 25 years and have never seen a bluegill.

Buckcanyon pretty scary the wdfw can't  tell the difference between pumpkin seed, and bluegill growing up on Rosie myself fishing at least 3 times a week for 20 years minimum never seen one either. Have you seen any of the snapping turtles, because they are in there.

Lake Roosevelt has bluegill? I've caught trout, salmon, baby sturgeon, pikeminnow, pike, whitefish, walleye, smallmouth, perch, burbot, carp and even a crappie. Never even heard of there being bluegill
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
