Bighorn Sheep - Idaho
« on: June 03, 2020, 12:40:47 PM »
I mostly lurk on here these days but I use to be fairly active on here.  I opened up the mail yesterday and saw my Idaho envelope that usually says you were unsuccessful in drawing for a bighorn sheep hunt.  When I saw the "congratulations" I about hit the floor.  My dream of hunting sheep is alive although many of you may have followed my first ram hunt back in 2015 for dall sheep.

So much is going through my head to be ready but I need step up my workout schedule...because I drew in unit 27 Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.  I've hiked in the unit before and I'm smart enough to not try this one on my own at 45 years old.  Just to access the unit is a brutal 25 mile hike.  I'll probably be going with Dave Melton from Bighorn Outfitters.

Very excited and I'll try to keep anyone interested updated.

Congratulations!  Have you ever thought about floating the river or flying in?  I was looking at flights in and they are reasonably priced ($600 or so.  It might make access a bit easier for you so you can save your legs for the hunt!  Hope to see the title of this thread change to SUCCESS! in a few months!

Floating is good late when they get pushed down.  You can also DIY float and then hike up to the top.  I think I like the idea of horses and glassing from the top.  The rams can be anywhere in that unit and you have to kind of glass and wait them out to materialize as there is timber, etc. in the area.  I don't think there are airstrips in this portion of unit 27.  Maybe down on the river.

Sooooo jealous!!! Congratulations sir!
