I decided to develope a new load for my Remington Varmit .308Win with the bullet seated .020 off the lands. It’s awesome to see what just a few grains Does to group sizes. I definitely found my load. 165grn Hornady SST’s on top of Varget.

Yeah, I stumbled on a similar load with 165's Varget (partitions and AB). 

If anyone is interested in getting started reloading, grab a .308 Win, a 165 grain traditional projectile, and some Varget.  It's almost too easy and a great confidence builder.

I always try and finish up with three 5 shot groups .2 grains each way of your chosen load, and most importantly, at 200 yards.

Definitely a confident booster in the reloading aspect. I never expected to get a group like that from a used rifle. 165’s and varget are made for each other.

Nice work.  I’m working up loads for my 308 varmint as well. I just may have to give these 165s a try.  Did a full charge weight work up on the 185 juggernauts with varget and didn’t find anything too interesting.

Got my loads ready for 600 yrd Ladder test .    Had pretty good luck using a ladder at 600 to tune for 1000. 
My buddy said it looks like christmas.

Hahaha, yes it does. That’s cool. Never heard of load development at 600yds. Post results.

I shot my 308 at 1000yds in eberg last month....39moa of elevation. That’s all my rifle had and it worked.

Well I collected some data today with 500 yard ladder test for 30” 338 Proof Barreled Lapua       

Shooting virgin brass so expect es to tighten up on reloading.   
Got a starting point anyway .



Took along my beat up 40 year-old 300 win mag Vanguard out to try some factory 215 Bergers thru it.   No brake and trigger is stiff so it hops off the rest when you shoot.   Go figure it put 4 in a 2.5” group at 500.

Not attempting to hijack my own thread but I built this stand today with my new 20 inch target. My goal with this says target is for a 1 mile shot. I hit 1450 yards with a 12” target two weeks ago, so what’s another 310 yards?😂😂

I’m attempting this feet with a custom 300 Remington ultra mag topped with a vortex Viper PST II 5-25 FFP.

Stand looks good. VDoable at a mile !  But 1450 with 12” is tough.    Last time out my son hit 10” at 1000 yd cold bore first shot   I said wanta try again?  Nope, I’m dialed in! , he said. 

20” at 1000 takes not over 2 shots, but at a mile hope for low wind.....

1 mile is where things get fun for me.  So many variables.  Never have set up steel for the 1m I just find a 1 moa rock or real close to that.   Rum is more than capable at that range.   I think where the rum really shines is with heavies! Like the 245 eol

Ya, I have thought about shooting heavier bullets but this thing is a laser with 200grn eldx At 3120fps.

I have been working on understanding wind. I ignore my kestral wind readings at my firing position And read mirage At the target and adjust from there. I learned that from my army sniper buddy who i took out shooting a couple weeks ago. I was doing it all wrong. Donely thing I use my Kestral for now is environmental factors.

I understand the mirage just havent managed to convert to practice.  Not sure if its because I only shoot first light, or eyesight or focus.

At a mile you wind at target isn’t quite right either most of the time.  That bullet is flying quite high from los.  Typically I’ll look for the strongest wind I can see and go from there

Not a bad practice. Max ord can be near 50ft at beyond 1000yds. If you can see the mirage up there, use that. I agree with you 100%. That’s what i do. I then adjust off that dope. I have an erb7 retical (Christmas tree.) love it.

You can’t see mirage up there.  Sorry if I wasn’t clear in my first post.  What I mean is if your seeing mirage at target that’s mostly 5mph ish but once in a while it gusts up to 10ish.  I’ll use my 10 mph dope on my first shot because wind up there is stronger with less terrain resistance on the wind.   At mile most cartridges will between 75-130’ above line of sight at max ord.
