preping mouth calls for season
« on: April 12, 2009, 09:22:32 AM »
i learned this tip about 20 yrs ago, from a fellow guide and pro staffer in pennsylvania denny gulvas. every spring i was getting a sore throat and could not figure why. i was out with denny one dayand told him about it. i was getting bacteria from my mouth calls causing the sore throat. so heres the tip now i soak my calls in a good bacteria killing mouth wash for about a day  then let them airdry for another day before putting them back in their cases, also they have a nice mint flavor to them instead of nasty bad breath taste lol.    thanks for your time         strut

Yep..been using the same mouth call for 12 years now tastes really awesome..I always throw away after a year or two..buy new..There are products like diapresh and yelper helper..I prefer mouthwash..because it makes it smell like I brushed my teeth..LOL   :chuckle: :chuckle:  Good tip..strutandrut.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

I rinse them off under running water.  Store bought or home made (I make my own diaphragms from latex surgical gloves) and they hold up several years if they are put away clean.  Whatever you do, keep them out of the sun or they will deteriorate quickly.

Store your multiple reed calls with a toothpick betwen the reeds to keep them from sticking together.  I use Scope too.
