Texas trip (don't even think about it if you have dial-up!)

Spent a week out there, in McAllen and San Antonio. Been to both before and definitely like SA. McAllen is too humid and nasty out. Oh, I do see why they hunt senderos and bait and call a lot... you can't see jack! Whole place is just covered in mosquite trees and is similar to western Washington in thickness.
Went to the Brownsville zoo, South Padre Island (though the weather wasn't cooperating while there), Sea World, Alamo, River Walk in SA... it was a great time.
Just some of the photos
Departing Houston for McAllen

Somewhere just outside of Houston
San Antonio river walk
Went on a special tour before Sea World opened up. Got some behind the scenes stuff and got to feed the dolphins and sea lions before everyone else. Got to have lunch next to the killer whale tanks and watch them before the show. For the show we had some preferred seating and amazingly didn't get wet. Also had front of the line passes for the rides. Was really nice for the water rides and keeping cool.

One of the fun things about SA Sea World is the rides. This was the steel eel. My six year old daughter was brave enough to go on it twice, but her mom wouldn't go at all lol.
In action

Front row view. I wanted a video clip of it, but shortly after realized what a stupid idea it was. Had the wrist strap of the camera on, but had a very hard time holding it down.

Going home...
Arriving at Houston again (had to stop there going to and from McAllen)

Thanks for sharing. What did you think of the Gladys Porter Zoo(Brownsville)? I spent one summer there working with the reptiles.

Overall the zoo was pretty good. Not like the San Diego zoo or anything, but given the size difference in cities and all, wouldn't expect it to be. My daughter was disappointed they didn't have elephants. Need at least one acre per elephant and they just didn't have the room.

That's too bad. They used to have elephants there. But then again that was many years ago.
