My first powder horn attempt

Done! Made the staples myself out of a coat hanger, flattened them, heated then up and put a twist in them. A little wood glue for some support and they tapped into the horn and wood base plug nicely. The base plug & spout I lightly torched for some age and color. A hand rubbed coat of linseed oil and shes done! Already hanging off my shooting bag. 100% sealed air tight including the staple that goes through the horn.

I like the brass tip! I made a little wood plug for my first but out of softwood and broke it’s first time out. I think I still have 5 or so horns in a box with some india ink waiting to be made up.

Very nice, always like the personal touch stuff.
Here is my first attempt. Old shed half eaten and hollowed out. Holds 1000 grs. FF

not a brass tip guys. Its aged mule deer antler i lightly hit with the blow torch.

Ha! Zooming in I can see it’s not now. I had an incident with a saw and a Woodchip getting in my eye and scratched it pretty good so a quick look with one blurry eye looked like brass!

Rem, how did you go about hollowing out the shed?
The  main beam of the shed was chewed off and some of the inside was  soft. I cut off the end and  the branch to get entrance holes, then used long drill bits and round rasp files to finish hogging it out. I used some antler pieces to cover the branch hole and the end with the plug. Truoil to seal.

Two very cool pieces fellas. I've been thinking about a mini horn type of powder horn to replace the plastic containers I got for reloads.
