Huckleberries are out!
« on: July 12, 2020, 11:06:01 AM »
Got into a good patch of hucks yesterday between 2,500 and 3,000 ft. Cooked some down into a compote and drizzled over moose steaks on the tailgate. I love huckleberry season!

Found em too but we’re gonna wait a week for them to ripen a bit more. I ate 3 handfuls worth but 2 of those handfuls were pretty tart. Also got a cup full of wild strawberries
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Nice! I wish I lived closer so I could check back next weekend, but it'll probably be awhile before we get back to check on the progress.  Most of the ones we found were ripe, but there were several tart ones still.  The wild strawberries mixed with the huckleberries would make an awesome cobbler!

Gettn pretty picked over but found some good patches still at 4000 feet west of Indian Heaven.   Berry fields looked picked over and dry.
