GMU 278

Hey guys,

First time posing and really the first time I'm going to go out and give it my all trying to hunt for some mule deer.
My father in law wanted to try out GMU 278 but I don't really know where to start in the GMU or if it is even worth looking at.
Doing some research last time I have found people even talking about 278 was back like 2010 or so with either it was horrible or there is lots out there.
Any advice would be appreciated.

There are pockets of deer but its not stellar by any means. If you are local it can be worth while but I would not advise committing your vaca to travelling and hunting it. The places that hold deer see a fair amount of pressure and they quickly flee to private ground.

That is kind of what I've gathered. What areas would be better options in that area. My in laws live in North Bend so that area is only about 2 hrs for me so not to far to travel.

What Mfowl said. The locals know it and hunt it but it is still a difficult hunt for them. It can be just as crowded during the week as weekends because a lot of the guys hunting it have farm related jobs.

Bird hunters and coyote hunters also share the area and can screw your hunt up. Another problem is wild fires. Anywhere a wild fire goes through in the summer will be devoid of deer come hunting season, concentrating the hunters all into unburned areas and thus pushing the deer out quickly to private land.

Pretty country though, if you like the desert scablands.
