Whats your guys thoughts on the best way to attack this unit. Still hunting the big timber by 5 corners? Hunting the valley floor? Up high by Castle lake or the valley walls. I know theirs lots of options and lots of animals in there. Just seeing what your thoughts are for those with experience in there.

I suspect you'll be eating elk steaks whether you go high or low. Seriously.
I'd go with the type of country you like to hunt.

I would go in off the highway for an easy one...unless you want to pack one out of castle lol but its not remotely necessary for a cow
Good luck

The hardest part of this hunt is going to be the pack out. Seams you already have spent time in the unit and finding the elk will happen so plan your hunt for end goal packing elk. I know the area well and I see elk often some healthier than others and hoof rot sadly way to common. The Toutle river can be a big divide and elk will cross it. I have a friend that took crossing it to the extreme at high water and it almost sucked him down river. Great place to fill a tag good luck.

Thanks, whats the best access off 504? It would be some work to pack one out of the castle lake area but i dont always think about the pack out until after the smoke clears.
