Yote Down
« on: August 26, 2020, 08:05:55 PM »
Spent 5 days doing nothing but coyote hunting. Missed some but killed 14, they were thick!!!
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

Good job. Do you mind if I ask what call you are using? Or is it a trade secret? It’s not like I am asking where the best spots are.

I have a Primos Alpha dog caller, Most success has been from Adult Cottontail distress call.   They come running in!!!! If I don’t see a dog in 15 mins, I move but not far, maybe a 500 yds.

Just this one, I shot this one at 300 yds give or take and I knew I hit it but couldn’t find it.  Went back the next day and saw turkey vultures all over the area and looked again and found it

Awesome! Get tired of hearing all the people whining about predators and never hunting them.

That’s cool rtspring. Today I  found a coyote I shot last Saturday night because I saw some vultures circling and saw one land in a tree in the middle of a patch of blackberries. I went up there and looked around and found it about 30 yards from where I shot it. It was nice to confirm the kill. I found another one that I shot a couple years ago with the help of vultures too.

Is there anything you guys are doing with them this time of year or.just leaving em lay? I bought a predator call and was going to try it out in September in hopes of figuring a little out to hopefully get after a few this winter for the hide. Can't see the pelt being worth any trouble during the hot months though.

The west side coyote hides are usually pretty scruffy. I have never tried to sell them. I saw a nice pelt that a friend has from a tote he shot in Alaska. It is really luxurious and fluffy. The ones I shoot are pitiful in comparison. The hide on the east side where it gets cold are probably a lot better. I shoot coyotes because they need to be shot. They killed my cat and my chickens and I want to protect t our little dog and the local fawns.

Strictly predator control on my part! I detest coyotes!  They have their place in the woods, but they are getting out of control.  Pelts no good this time of year, and they stink really really really bad..

That's what I figured, my old man has a ton at his place in maza and they look like real good hides once the snow hits. Just wanted to make sure if I get one or two this September when I go visit I'm not missing out by leaving them out there. Thanks gentleman.
