ONX, GO HUNT, BASE MAPS
« on: October 07, 2020, 02:11:05 PM »
What is everyone's opinion on the different options here.  I have only used ONX and had good luck, but am seeing some great features with the others.  Let me know what you think.

Go hunt is more on planning hunts, unit breakdown and draw odds not really a gps program like onx or basemap.
I haven't played with basemap enough to tell you if its better than onx but at first glance basemap is a lot cheaper for all 50 states and in my opinion has better imaging.

I agree that basemap seems to have better imaging. I also have not used it enough to give it an honest review. I have OnX figured out and dont look to change much. The new GoHunt imaging software looks nice, but being so new I also havent tried it. Hopefully it is reliable right away.

Been using base maps for two years. Love it. Had onx for a few months and it just didn't impress me. But that was a couple years ago so it could of changed. But I have no reason to switch.

My impression is that GoHunt will have a working mapping app in the near future but it's not ready for this season.  I use Gaia GPS - add that to your list of ones to check out.  A bit cheaper than OnX (probably because they don't pay for advertising on hunting shows) and has public/private land layers, GMU boundaries, satellite imagery and multiple kinds of topo maps if you get one of the upper tier memberships

I have OnX but will be dropping it once GoHunt comes out with theirs as there will hopefully be no reason to pay for a separate program.  I honestly use it much more in the desktop planning stage than during the hunt, but it's nice to have for sure when Plan A doesn't work.

ONx recently added a 3d function that will be a nice upgrade

So far the OnX 3-d beta isn’t very impressive. I think the rest of the program is awesome though.

It’s more like 2.3D. :chuckle:

Is the 3D available now?  First I've heard of it.  Haven't received any notification from OnX.

I have liked what I have seen so far in the Beta version. I heard Randy Newberg talking about the full version and he said its pretty awesome

Randy's opinion may change when the sponsorships are renewed, I can't imagine he will be repping both OnX and GoHunt but who knows.

Good to hear everyone's opinions on this.  I currently am using OnX, just putting some feelers out to see what everyone else thinks.  I'm very interested in what GoHunt has coming out and definitely a plus, being all in one program.

I think both serve different purposes so why couldn't he rep both? Onx for in the field navigation and Gohunt for offseason prep and research.

Because GoHunt is going to become a direct competitor to OnX very soon when they release their mapping software.
