Okanogan/winthrop trip
« on: October 21, 2020, 06:13:48 AM »
Hey folks. I am a wetside grouse hunter, going on a trip with my friend over to the okanogan/winthrop area in pursuit of grouse and maybe quail. I'm sure the habitat is drastically different over there and I'm not sure what areas I should target. I dont know the areas and I dont know what kind of habitat to key in on to find those eastern WA grouse. when I get up there should I try to gain some elevation and get up on the ridges, look in the drainage bottoms? Any tips would be appreciated.

What kind of grouse are you after Blues(high elevation) or Ruffed(lower elevation? If you plan to hunt quail and grouse at the same time you will more likely be lower elevation

Find water and you will find grouse.  Tight brush provides cover for quail.  Both birds are very predictable with what habitat they prefer.

Bumping again, how did it go?  I'm thinking about hunting the same area.

Im heading to Winthrop this weekend and will likely get out a morning or 2 for some phesant, quail, etc.  Not sure were to go yet especially with the snow but will report back if successfull.  Not looking for any hot spots but any ponters or direction is certainly welcome.
Take one new person out hunting every year.
