Muzzle break on a 6.5 CM

What's your thoughts on them? They come with them but I don't think there really necessary. More of a irritating noise maker on a rifle with little recoil. Mainly for looks.

I took mine off for the same reason. Noisy! I bought a thread saver collar off eBay for a few bucks. Not a perfect match, but it works.

Depends what the purpose of the rifle is.  Hunting not really needed. Range rig is say they are a necessity. Even a low recoiling rifle like a CM is gonna be hard to spot impacts with unbraked and even a low recoiling rifle like a CM is gonna beat you up and make you flinchy after a 100+ round range day.

:yeah: all depends on application. I have a .338 that I prefer to not have a brake on, and I have a 6.5cm that I’ve considered adding a brake to. Why? Different shooting applications. I’m never going to sit there and pound steel at 1000+ with the 338. It’s a short-to mid range elk gun. The 6.5 on the other hand is a tack driver and the ideal rig for honing long range skills with a light hunting style gun during the off season, but it’s still fairly jumpy and can be tough to spot my own shots. Definitely never considered adding one to anything for looks  :chuckle:

I have a 15lb 6.5cm with a brake and a hunting 6 1/2lber with no brake.  Its not about recoil.

I put a brake on my Ruger American Predator in 6.5. After having done so, I'll never have a rifle without one. Shooting is already noisy, so the common complaint of more noise just seems silly? The recoil reduction is noticeable and really nice. I get back on target faster and can shoot for longer periods of time without getting worn down.

If it's a range toy and you put a bunch of rounds through it, go for it. If it's a hunting rig and you maybe put 100 rounds through it a year between the range and hunting, it's just obnoxious noise. I'm not a fan of them in general but I've considered getting one for my 22-250.

It's not silly if you are sitting next to one at the range. The noise is much louder for the person sitting next to it.

Braked AR10s are especially annoying because they can crack off so many shots.

I've been the annoying guy at the range so I can't complain.

But I've also left due to a pair of braked AR10s.

Yeah, with brakes next to you there is the noise and that awesome concussion coming right at you.  With ar’s you also get nailed with brass.

I built a 15 pound long range precision 6.5 CM with a brake.  I wasn't planning on using the thing for hunting just shooting golf balls at 600 yards.  But then it really did shoot golf balls at 600 yards and I decided I couldn't not take it hunting.  Nothing quite like being able to stay in the scope after the shot and watch bullet impact.  I wear hearing protection before I take a shot when hunting so noise is a non issue.
