Scouting with rifle for next year, HWY 7 FS roads/gates?
« on: November 10, 2020, 10:53:32 AM »
I haven't hunted elk in almost 10 years.  Was going to take a drive this weekend to scout some areas for next year and an extended week trip.  Does anyone know if the 7300/7400 FS roads off of HWY 7 between Elbe and Morton are open?  years ago you could drive in west of HWY 7 in several places..  Has it changed or are they gated now?  PM's are fine.  No other details necessary I'll do the rest myself.  Just trying to find some places to check out for next year behind the wheel.  I'll have my gun, but more interested in seeing hunting pressure, possible camp sites for next year and other details with my own eyes.

Only one Rd off 7 you can drive. Everything else is gated. I live right there. Been up there a bunch throughout the year shooting and have yet to see an elk on that Rd this year. You'll have to walk behind one of the gates to find em.
