First Moose Euro
« on: November 19, 2020, 07:08:10 AM »
I've done quite a few Euro mounts, but this was the first moose, one that my step son killed with his Tribal North Half tag.
Moose skulls, due to their physical structure provide challenges not seen with other skulls.  First you need a real large tank, as in a small stock tank.  Then with the antlers exiting the skull on the sides, it prevents using peroxide in the water bath to help clean and whiten without bleaching the antlers.  Baking soda, Dawn dish soap and lots of cutting, scraping, picking, tweezing and pressure washing, we were able to get it clean.  Used the hair gel peroxide brushed on the skull for 24 hours and then rinsed off to whiten.  Now it just needs the Skull Hooker attached for the finished product.

It looks great.   Just manhandling a moose skull comes with issues.   Nice work.

Fantastic work.

You're a brave man.  I've done lots of deer and elk, but I have always said that if I ever get to kill a moose, that's one euro I'll be paying someone to do.  Beyond my limited skill-set.  Yours turned out great.

Same process(other than the peroxide), just a bit bigger and the realization that the skulls are built different in relation to the antlers.  Thanks for the compliments :)

Brush on some “mop and glow”, seals things up, keeps dust from sticking to the skull and gives it a nice smell. Great looking euro! Congrats on the moose.

DON'T use mop n glo, your skull will eventually turn a yellow hue.  Nice moose!

Maybe I won't use the Mop n Glow.  I've done about dozen euro's over the years and have never used anything on the skulls after cleaning and they seem to age good.
