Lever action prices

Is it my imagination or has there been a big uptick in interest in / prices of "tacticool"  lever actions?

Perusing Gunbroker I see a Marlin 336 dark with current bid of 2725.00. Seems like a $500 gun with $50 worth of barrel threading and black paint.  Same with the 1895s.

Mossberg 464 SPX was a $400 gun last year, now multiple sales at $800.

These are just a couple of examples off the top of my head. Other manufacturers and models seem to show similar behavior.

However you can still buy a pre-64 Winchester 88 for under $1k.

I don't get it.

Concern about a ban on semi autos perhaps?

Lots of gouging going on with anything concerning guns right about now. It doesn’t help that Joe has vowed to destroy the second amendment immediately.

I saw a shift to things like levers and falling blocks when Trump got elected.  When Obama was potus, it seemed everyone was buying up semi-autos, so there was a big supply of lever guns that would sit there for weeks and get re-listed at lower and lower prices.  It seemed like as soon as the 2016 election was over, semi-autos were flooding the auctions and couldn't find a lever or a falling block for anything close to the price before assuming you could even find one.  I guess if lots of people go back to semis now that dopey is president, you might find the old stuff again.

Probably not your imagination since the same thing is happening with shotguns.

If you want to sell a shotgun just add a pistol grip and list it as tactical.

Probably a great investment if they get grandfathered and limited  downside at today's prices if nothing happens.

Unless you’re looking for something rare, auction sites are horrible places to buy a gun these days.

i don't get all the hysteria over the "dark" marlins.  ooh, a lever action with a paint job.

if there's any logic, it's that marlin in the last few years up to remington's bankruptcy didn't seem to be putting out the models that people wanted in any sort of numbers.

as for the falling block thing, i think that's partly collector driven, partly lack of production.  i'm not sure what winchester/browning/miroku put out a year, but ruger made the no.1 into a limited edition/limited caliber per year gun, then jacked the prices way up.  used to be most bigger gun shops had a few on the rack, that seems to have dried up now and i rarely ever see them any more.  cabela's in lacey usually had a whole display case of them in the gun library, nothing now.  guys that own no. 1's usually seem to have several.

I'm amazed by the success of the polymer lever guns.

I first saw one and thought who the hell would buy that?.

Then this acquaintance I talk to about guns showed me a picture of his.

I wonder if CA/NY laws are a factor. Maybe the people buying them don't know about the work-around ARs.
