2nd Tractor Question? Cab Or No Cab?

My buddy has a Deere 4052R with a cab and loves it. One neighbor has cabs on both his tractors. The other neighbor has ROPS. I have never owned a tractor and I've only run tractors without a cab.

Pro and cons either way?

Cost is about $5000ish more for a Kioti NX with the cab. Payment changes about $75 per month.

The extra $5k savings could buy some nice implements but having heat and A/C could be legit.

Kind of nice sitting in a heated cab while you plow snow. Out of the dust while you do ground work. Quieter.

I think snow removal would be the only reason I would want a cab.  I don’t have one for mine and I don’t regret not having one.

I've used both a bunch.  I prefer no cab while working.  Especially with a front end loader. 

However, if your tractor is going to sit outside at all especially on the westside, the cab keeps your controls dry, which will help with electronic switches etc.

If you are in the seat for endless hours then heat and AC are a good thing.

If not go buy a custom rifle with the $5000.

I think it depends on the use. Nowadays my tractor is almost just recreational mowing and plowing. So I don’t do it if the weather is too bad.

I hate disking and dragging fields in the dust without a cab, choke on so much dust takes a week to get it out of your sinuses.

I hate baling hay without a cab, hay allergies, another week of headaches and sinuses.


Dinking around a hobby farm doing chorez, cab not necessary.


My next tractor will have a cab!  It will be a deeelux pressurized with cabin filtering ac and heat.

When using a cab less tractor there is nothing worse then doing ground work or baling hay "with the wind". Your stuck in the dust/chaff cloud till you turn around to go the other direction

That’s me. Brush hogging only on bluebird weather and snow plowing is measured in less than 6 hours a year if that.

One thing I did notice is that the tractor drinks fuel during plowing, at least twice the rate as brush hogging

My father had a small hydro stat tractor with a bucket it had a fiberglass canopy. For the west side I have to say that this worked pretty good for keeping some of the rain and sun off you. Not as good as a cab but for the west side a pretty good compromise.

If you are a hobby “farmer” messing with a few acres a cab is not really needed. They are nice when you are cutting and bailing hay for days on end in 90 degree weather or turning fields in downpours.

For what it's worth when I am plowing snow in the ne counties.  I do enjoy the fact that I am out of the elements when I have to be out there.
But then I am more mature and I do enjoy creature comfort. Along with the heat and listening to sirrius radio while throwing snow.
But I also have a non cab tractor and it works just fine.

So I have 17 acres 7 ish in Hayable grass but I let someone else hay it I will be using for blackberries and general clean up and land scoping. Our driveway is 900ft long so I will be keeping that in shape also. The cab would be sweet but the more I look at cost I can get non cab with sunshade with a grapple, brush cutter and land planer for a little more I than $1000 more than the tractor and cab by itself.

No cab on mine, and the only time I wish I had one is plowing snow. If I could get a heated steering wheel, I might not even want the cab. I've plowed about 10 times this Winter. I doubt in Eatonville, you'd have as much snow to really worry about a cab, but I could be wrong. I'm over 6 feet of snowfall this Winter.
