Kapowsin elk draws for 2021, big change??
« on: January 31, 2021, 02:01:08 PM »
Anyone else hear or know more about possible big changes coming to the kapowsin Hancock elk draw in 2021?  I have a good friend who logs on the property and said he heard a pay for play for elk is coming in 2021 instead of a drawing.  I sent an email to Hancock, hopefully I get a response this week.

With Rayonier's acquisition of Pope and ORM, I wouldn't be surprised. They seem to be fans of leases/auctions. Their permits don't sell out anymore, and they could probably make more auctioning hunts.

If those hunts end up going to the people with the deepest pockets it will be a damn shame.  Those hunts will fetch a ton of money, little guy will take it right in the butt.

Got an email back pretty quickly from hancock,  "We are still working out the details for the 2021-2022 season, but we expect minimal change in the process for our permit holders".

So it sounds like not much will change, will see.

I have heard that every winter for about 10 years now. My buddies dad said Champion was going to be doing that back in the 80s too and never did.

Sounds like an old logger tale  :twocents:

Hopefully nothing really changes. Bought the permit for first time last year. Hopefully be able to buy again this year.

They were supposed to draw yesterday, anyone know someone who drew?  I’m hoping they haven’t called anyone yet.

I don't think they have notified the winners yet maybe I'm wrong. It seems like someone would have said something by now.
