SW Oregon Spring Bear
« on: April 11, 2021, 07:19:52 PM »
Headed down to southern oregon this week to take advantage of the weather. I took my first fall bear last year in washington but still havent quite figured out the whole spring bear thing. Anybody else draw this tag before and had success?

Got a couple spots marked around the Coos Bay area so we'll give it the ole college try and see how it goes.

SW is a large area, as it includes all the SW units.  Just to the north of where you're heading, the Siuslaw unit has the highest % success on spring bear for all the units on the SW spring bear tag.  But where you're going to Coos Bay area the Sixes and Tioga units are also productive.  Good luck.

I drew Minam-Imnaha up in the NE this year, so won't be heading out for spring bear until May as need the snow to melt more up there.   Focused on turkey next week for the opener.

Good luck on your hunt.  Definitely head south of Coos Bay the 20 or so miles down to Bandon if you get free time.  I love Bandon.  Great little town.   I go crabbing in the river there just in from the jetty.

Thanks for the info! Good luck on your hunt as well. I drew this tag last year and hunted quite a few of the open units but liked the ones that you mentioned in particular (siuslaw and tioga) the best.

We'll see if i can actually lay the smack down this year!

I had the S.W Oregon spring tag last year and was only able to do a 5 day trip down there due to them closing it during the covid lock down. I went down toward the end of May and connected on my first spring bear on day 2. Was a lot of fun.
