bone...i think you're thinking of the mill creek watershed unit, which joins 162's south end, but it's a different unit.
157 i wanna say...
157 is brutally steep but there is some monsters. also i think they don't let you in to scout it either. don't hold me to that one though.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

You're right. I wasn't sure where it was down there or what unit it was attached too.  As far as I know its no admittance ever, that includes shed hunting or shroom picking.   I know that some folks hunt the boundary religiously hoping for one to come out.

I know.  I have the same issues.  I must also get moody too because there is a limit to how many of these ?s I can handle.  Especially this time of year from the first time poster, (thread jacked, not talking about you Lamar)

I guess what he is saying is he wants to put in for a Unit he knows nothing about besides all the big bull talk and wants to put in for it , do your homework and look at the maps. Its not hard to outline a map and find your public hunting grounds. RESEARCH!

im a local and elk hunt in the indian ground and making sure if i was to get the the tag (even though i probably won't) that i would be able hunt in that area.  I wasnt sure if maybe because it was indain ground that they wanted all the big bulls to themselves? which isnt out of the question.
I tumbled him..

:yeah:

there's a lot of private farm land in 162 too. i don't see whats so difficult to understand.

yes there is.. they just kind of made it sound like you could only hunt private ground and if u cannot hunt private ground dont apply.  I thought u could hunt anywhere in 162 but i just figured i would double check and this would be the place to ask.
I tumbled him..

You are right about the Watershed, no admittance, ever, unless you are one of the 40 lucky guys that draws the elk tag in there.  You can't scout it, you can't set foot in it until first day of the season, and even during the season you can't spend the night in the unit.  Most guys that draw try to get ahold of a horse, camp at the edge of the unit, get up at 3:00 am, ride in, hobble the stock, hunt all day, and ride out in the dark.  They patrol the area all year long with vehicles and aircraft making sure there is no one in there.
I would LOVE to draw that tag, but there is no special archery season, so I have to wait until I get the multi-season tag before I try putting in for it.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

t says the tag is for GMU 162. The Umatilla National Forest and Rainwater Indian ground is in 162. Next to Dayton A it has a little C right next to it which is a footnote that reads: Private lands; access is extremely limited.  If you cannot secure access to private lands do not apply for these hunts.  So does that mean i would only be allowed to hunt private ground? if that simplifies it at all.
I believe Dayton city hall has a list of names of people that will let you hunt their land , You just need to contact them.
If its brown knock it down

my dad knows most of the landowners but if i got the tag i know the rainwater area pretty good and know there are some dandy bulls in there so i would hunt there if i could.
