Old shotgun shells
« on: May 07, 2021, 06:48:23 PM »
Do these have any value to a collector? I acquired them 30 years ago. They were my grandfathers, I have no idea on age, 40+ years.  There’s a full box but the box itself isn’t doing so well.

Unfortunately most of the value is the box

The real value is the fact they were your grandfathers

 :yeah:

Agree... Personally I'd take it hunting and hopefully kill a few birds with the old ammo get some good pics and incorporate the hulls in a mount that's an option... If you're sentimental like that...
I love you... I really do...

They are lead shells. I doubt the cost to travel to Texas to hunt cranes (lead shot legal) would be worth the effort. You might get lucky and get to use them on a coyote or two. That's about the only scenarios I can think of that would be legal use of those shells.

High base #4s would make a good turkey load also.

I have sold quite a bit of vintage ammo. Over my 60 years of shooting, collecting and competing i acquired several thousand dollars worth of really neat ammo and as I'm getting older (74) I decided to start selling most of it. We are extremely lucky to have a very honest and reputable outlet for this. Wards Collectables in Dallas, Or. has sold most of what I had. Some of the old Sharps paper patched shells sold for over $200.00 Each?
When I went to the old Washington state gun show that used to be held at the high school in Renton I would have very little to spend. I bought 9mm rimfire shotgun shell made by Winchester for $.15 each. Those were the days.
Go to their web site and look at what they have up for auction. If you are near Dallas, Or (close to Salem) stop in. Hope this helps, Russ
