Dancer's 20-1/4 lb opening morning Rio

I believe he got that in Lincoln Co. so by Washington's definition, it's a Rio.  WA classifies by location for the purpose of the Washington Slam.

Wow! Nice birds! The files are pretty large for my slow computer though.
I hinted 10 days to get this Jake. The big gobbler was comming in but this bird had a deformed foot and a DBL Beard so I wanted him!.

As said above, WDFW classifies it by county of harvest which was north Lincoln Co and therefore a RIO.  Since there can be variations in colorations due to genetics or feed or whatever, only a genetics test would prove for 100% certain what the subspecies is.   :dunno:

Since that's not happening, WDFW definition of Rio is good enough ...

huntphool: Great picture. I bet there is a good Turkey Hunting story to go along with the pictue. I'm putting together a little booklet of all the Turkey hunting stories this year. I'll distribute it when the season is over.

My bird. 7 1/2" beard

My dads bird. 9 1/2" beard

My dad also shot a jake, but I think he would kill me if I posted a picture. I might have to though. It will win ugliest bird of the year :chuckle:

Here is my opening morning textbook tom. One call one gobble on the roost....One more call cut off by two gobbles on the roost...15 minutes later birds on the ground heading my way. The little one busted me and started chirping. As the big tom and hens turned to leave I filled my tag with this little guy. 20lbs. 9 1/2 in beard 1/2 in spurs. Not my biggest bird but a great time and very tasty ;).

Congrats to all on some awesome hunting and results!!  :IBCOOL:   :IBCOOL:  It's looking like this year so far is more productive than last?

Bird Guy, Our Merriam's were harvested hunting south of Chewelah and some flocks have white fans and some are more cream colored.  Not sure why....other than a mixing of some gene pools?

Yelp,  Any ideas on why your "crow colored" gobbler has black wing feathers instead of black and white barred?  Awesome photos by the way....how much does your camera man run you??

Phantom Gobbler...The black wings are caused from a melanin deficiency.  It isn't rare but not very common..I know of two others shot in Lincoln County with it...There also is no barring on tailfeathers.  My cameraman works cheap..usually beer does the trick..I take lots of pictures every year..I usually get one good one out of 10.  :)

I shot a bird back in 2006 I believe that had 3/4" black bars and like 1/4" white bars on its wings, it was pretty different looking. Looks like we have some pretty accomplished folks on here.
