Boat Mechanic in the Monroe area
« on: August 05, 2021, 08:59:48 AM »
I have a 14 foot Wahoo (whaler style) boat that has had the steering seize up.  Pretty sure I need to have the Hydrolics replaced.

I was planning on going to Sky Valley Marine in Monroe, but it looks like they have shut down.

Any recommendations on a reputable repair shop/person in the greater Monroe area?

I met this guy at Skyline last Spring. Will probably have him replace the seals on my hydraulics....

I think 3 Rivers Marine has a pretty reputable service department.

Rob you have cable steering on the Wahoo not a Baystar.  The cables get saltwater in them if you do. It constantly put grease in the service zircs.  You can order a new cable from multiple boating online sites and do it yourself.  If you remember my little Tiderunner I had I replaced the cables a few times on that boat.  You can do it as your whole boat is accessible.

Agree, pretty easy to replace cables in a small, open boat.

Talk to Curt at 3 Rivers.

I'll take a look at it and see if I can tell what is happening.

I recall from a general service I had a while back that the seals were going bad so it may be more than cables.

Charlie knows his stuff.
Cash might ease the pain a little too.  Pretty sure he is 100% mobile now.  He was this spring when he worked on mine at my house.

He is also a very accomplished musician and has travelled all over the world.
