Fly Fishing Guides Near Seattle
« on: August 16, 2021, 08:52:07 AM »
Looking for some recommendations on a guided fly fishing trip for my Uncle the weekend after Labor Day. He fishes frequently in Colorado, builds his own rods, etc. Google brought up Emerald, Avid and Arch Anglers and I'm thinking he would like a Skykomish cutthroat trip. Does that sound like a good option for that time of year? Any other guide services recommended?

If you're going to do a guide trip, I would go to the Yakima without thinking twice that time of year. Red's, The Evening Hatch, Worley Bugger, Tamarack Guide Service, lots of options.

You could talk to Creekside Angling Co in Issaquah or Pacific Fly Fishers in Lynnwood for local recommendations, but the Yak is our only "blue ribbon" fly fishing river. The fish are chunky and there are lots of them.  It's less than 2.0 hours from Seattle.

Good point, it's probably worth it to drive an extra hour +/- to get to a better fishery. I'll contact those shops.

If you want to show him something he's not able to experience where he's at, a fly trip in the sound might be fun. Lots of good opportunity for searun cutt's out there, but I think down south is better. I've fished for them down near the Tacoma Narrows from the beaches and had success but I don't know enough about them to recommend anything specific. Also some coho are caught that way as well...timing is a thing too, but again, I'm not entirely familiar with the fishing.

If you’re up for a longer drive and an overnight, can’t beat the Deschutes in central Oregon. Can float it, but only fish while wading.
Steelhead are there too depending on the time of year.
