Yep another .270 Win thread.
« on: August 17, 2021, 10:43:59 AM »
I picked up a new Tikka T3X to use on the snake river breaks/wheat fields for deer hunting. I would really like to shoot Berger 140 VLD hunting bullets as I have 200 of them. I also have a box of 270 Sierra psp game king 140gr bullets. Looking in my Berger manual the only powders I have in their list are Varget, H414, H4350, and IMR 4350. I will be using CCI 200 primers. Anyone have any luck? Suggestions?

Shot and reloaded a ton Of .270 win over the years.  My go to powder for 140 and 150 grain projectiles was h4350.  Never let me down and is a great powder.   H414 works too and I load a lot of 7-08 and .270 with it also.  H414 is pretty easy to find if you can’t find h4350.

Good luck and the .270 is well suited for the ground your hunting.

H414 is one of the faster (velocity wise) powders I’ve used in my .270 with 130gr bullets.  It’s discontinued now, but Winchester 760 is the same powder, and hodge on markets them both, so I guess that they didn’t feel the need for redundancy.

For 140gr bullets with the powders you have, I would think that h4350 would be a winner.

in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

the availability thing is a big deal, I use H4350 in a few other guns, I’ve never opened the two bottles of H414 and tomorrow I have 8 lbs of IMR 4350 showing up, I’m down to less than 2 lbs of H4350. I do have a lb of win 760 I could try as well, it wasn’t listed in my book, it’s the old first edition copywriter 2012

IMR4350 should work equally as good.

From what I recall H414 and WIN 760 are the same powder.

I run I4350 in my 270 with 150grainers.

I've been loading for my .270 for around 30 years.  The load I've been shooting for many years is a 150 gr. Nosler Partition with 53 gr. of IMR4350.

I've experimented with a few different bullets and powders, however the Nosler Partition is the one that has always grouped the best in my Winchester Model 70.
