Thanks for the reply! So obviously Capital forest is about 110 k acres. Any suggestion on access points? Where should I go in at?

While it gets hit pretty hard, there are some very nice deer in there. Most guys that hunt it and complain about the lack of deer never leave their trucks.

The place is an absolute zoo if you stay close to the roads.  Lots of success posted by hunters over the years.  Do a search for "Capitol Forest'  on this site and you'll have tons of information.  Good luck.

I hunted late season archery there a few times.
Can imagine rifle season is a zoo there.

on weekends, it sounded like a war zone when I was archery hunting....all the target shooters!!

I was there yesterday until 3 am helping a couple who was stranded in their car on top of one of the peaks. I’ve spent quite a bit of time out there and it holds deer, bear, cats, small game and most of all TWEAKERS.

So please be careful and do not leave anything valuable in your car if you’re near the road. I almost never go too far from my vehicle because of the people lurking in some of those hills. Never be unarmed out there.

Doesn’t matter where you go in there you will see deer. I saw a nice buck a couple weeks ago in there.

Never leave your vehicle unattended after dark. It will more than likely get broke into.

I have seen lots of game, from Fox to Lions, but also some creepy stuff.

My question since I have been in and hunted CP often, what about the other state forest lands such as Tahuyu and Green Mountain in Mason/Kitsap Counties, are they worth a trip to hunt or even scout?

No animals at all in green mountain  probably best to stay at Cap Forest.

I lived in Kitsap basically my whole life. As soon as I downloaded OnX I realized that the state forest would jump over roads and private land and pick back up in little small patches that no one knew about. I would highly recommend getting some app that shows you who the land owner is for each parcel. I started hunting little chunks of state forest that were split off from the main areas. Too small to have a good hike or trail riding session, but just the perfect size for a little still hunting. I'm sure other state forests have other similar break off chunks. If I were to hunt Cap I would probably try and do that. Or just drive south for an hour.

There's areas of Tajuya State Forest that have good deer numbers.  Get away from the ORV area and hike in from gates.

Live in the 663 and got plenty of the things in the yard. Last days of regular season are your best bet

There are no deer in the Capitol Forest, and the rut happens at night and underground. Ok, not exactly true, but look at the quality deer permit harvest report from last year; one spike.
