Good to be seeing bucks!
« on: September 21, 2021, 11:34:12 AM »
Well I got back on Friday and have been hunting high in Ferry county with zero luck in my old spots. Today I hiked into an area pretty close to the bottom of the valley and first thing I got to stalk 2 3x2, a spike, and a doe muley. The doe spotted me at 40 and they all walked off. Half a mile or more later I was taking some practice shots with my recurve and walking up the hill to collect my arrow I poked just high enough to see a 4x4, possibly had an eye guard big enough for 4x5 bedded staring at me. He trotted off when I got an arrow knocked. Circle around to another spot close to 3/4 mile away and a few does were walking around in there, used to be legal this time of year and a couple miles west they are but oh well. I decided to say “hey momma, where’s your husband?” And they all stared at me walking towards em and then casually walked away. Clearly haven’t seen a hunter yet this year. Keep walking the deer trail and I see a deer, chest only, on the side, 20 yards, can’t see head or butt and i try to peak past the tree and a 2 point whitetails staring at me! He ran off but I made it to the little hill and watched him stop and feed at 100 yards before walking into the brush. I snuck up there never taking my eyes off that brush and I saw him once when I was halfway there reach up and bite a leaf and then his head ducked in again and he musta crawled down a tunnel cause he was gone when I got there. Walked all over and even threw rocks in there. I’m grabbing my compound now and heading back out. Found a spring with a heavy trail to sit on. Good luck to everyone else still out chasing deer!

Doing a little backseat arrow building after chasing rabbits too haha
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

At least you're seeing them. That's good news. Ran into small whitetail buck and that's it this year so far. The deer thread seems really barren for late September
